Looking For Faith
CS Lewis who wrote the Narnia Chronicles was born in Belfast. His doubts about Christianity were overcome while riding to a zoo in the side car of his brother’s motorcycle.
“When we set out I did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God and when we reached the zoo I did.”
People have come to faith in God as their Father in many different and unexpected ways. Most people have to overcome many doubts that stand in the way of faith.
Yet God has said, that “If you seek me you will find me, if you seek me with all your heart.”
But where can you expect to find him?
Here are some suggestions that have helped many people to faith.
-
Looking at creation- the universe, the world and yourself
If you found a watch on the street what would be the possibility that it had come together and started to tell the time by chance, even after millions of years of time. It is more logical to assume it had been made by an intelligent and skillful person.
So, looking at the amazing intricacy and operation of creation – whether in the cosmos, or the earth or the amazing human body – it is just as logical to see God’s creative mind and power behind these wonders and not just some impersonal, accidental force of nature and chance.
- Being where his people worship him.
God is likely to be found where people who worship him gather. However, a warning would be attached to this. God himself says he is not found in the midst of religious rituals and observances. His presence will be found when people worship him in sincerity, simplicity and truth. We would love you to join us once in worship in Shiloh to see if you can find God among us.
- Reading the Bible.
The Bible claims to be God’s direct communication to people about himself and about life in this world. A good place to start is with what Jesus says about God in Mark’s Gospel. As you read, ask God to make himself known to you personally.
- Listening to the Bible being taught
The Bible is not always easy going to read and many people have found faith by listening to someone explaining its message. That is what Shiloh does in its meetings. Our podcasts are another way to help you understand what God is really like and how to have a relationship with him as Father
