Suicide Figures Among Men Is Alarming
Male suicide figures are at their highest for many years.
On average 100 men aged between 35-50 commit suicide in the UK every week. Reasons for these high numbers are many and often there is a combination of events or a number of contributing factors which take the individual on this lonely journey to death. The figures are alarming but what can be more frightening is there are no definitive tell tale signs that someone is on this journey.
At Shiloh, we believe no one commits suicide 'in their right mind' but rather the person suffers from various pressures which alters their mindset into an unreal way of thinking. The most unreal (untrue) thoughts are that there is no hope and that they would be better dead.
Suicide is a permanent solution to a possible temporary problem.
People experiencing depression, particularly men, struggle to come to terms with this illness and often fail to seek the help that could possibly support them to recover or turn around from the journey they are taking.
Depression is the mind's way of telling us something's wrong and like any other illness it requires medical or supportive interventions.
Men view seeking support as a weakness but again this is an unreal way of thinking that needs to change. Every life is valuable, every person has great worth and men experiencing suicidal thoughts need to recognise their value and seek help.
God places great value on every human being, he demonstrated that value by giving his Son Jesus to lay down his life so that men could know the love of God and experience the value he places on us. Jesus said, "I have come (into this world) that YOU might have life and have it abundantly. Whatever you might be experiencing in life, be it troubles beyond your capacity to cope or change, always remember, you don't have to believe the lies that there is no hope, nothing to live for or that you'd be better off dead; it isn't true! God loves you and can help you through faith in Jesus to get onto the journey of life. If you're (male or female) and feeling suicidal or find life is becoming unbearable, please seek help because you are extremely valuable and of great worth.
